in our illusory minds
we declare a National Holiday
celebrating the passing of time
precisely at the end of the twelfth month
on the stroke of midnight, earthly time,
we shoo-out the Old and shoo-in the New
reviewing events passed, hoping for a better Year,
in fairness to all, there are other New Years
celebrated at other times, some with other names
coinciding with religious beliefs and Lunar time
thus mocking the concept of only one unified New Year.
